Dealing with Emotional Stress
What is emotional stress? It is stress that affects your emotions.
What are some of the things that cause emotional stress?
It is usually due to a tragic event, such as a loved one passing away or a serious illness.
If you get stressed out it may cause more anger, sadness, or more frustration about the situation.
When you are emotionally stressed these feelings get activated and the following are a few tips to release emotional stress.
Reduce Emotional Stress
- Express your feelings. Say it out loud. Express yourself, your true feelings. By expressing your feelings you are releasing your emotions. Bottling up your feelings is never healthy.
- Invite nature in. Go for a walk outside. When you get out of the house or office and enjoy the nature aroound you, your mind is taken off of your problems. I know it really helps me to be in or even just look at pictures of nature. My mind gets put into nature.
- Put some varity into your routine. Sometimes doing the same thing each day can really make you depressed. I went so far as to change the way I drove home from work everyday.
- Journal your emotions. This has been and still is a great tool in dealing with emotions. I journaled everything. Even if I was having a good day I journaled that too.
- Feeling sad? Try something uplifting. Watch something funny on TV or put in a funny movie. Avoid things that remind you of bad times. Such as if you have been abused, avoid shows about abuse of any kind, You may think it will help, but it really doesn't. it only keeps you in the sadness.
- Feeling angry? Let it out in a safe way. I would rip up phone books, throw a basket ball against the outside wall of my house. I would punch a pillow. Do something until you feel a release.

Live for the moment. Are you feeling worried, scared, nervous?
Try to focus on the here and now.
If you are nervous about tomorrow, don't think about it. Focus only on today.
These are a few tips that helped me. Maybe you have a few of your own that you can list, so that when you are in the "moment" and can't think, you have your list posted somewhere that easy to find and you can pick one of these tips to help you!
